If you are Looking for a trendy and popular lunch restaurant in Kuopio, don’t look any further. Urban focuses only on serving lunch and hardly never disappoints (they occasionally host dinners, too - if you fancy having dinner with them, be quick as they tend to sell out REALLY fast).

The restaurant is partly run by Finnish Top Chef winner Anssi Kantelinen, to add a bit of excitement to your lunch break.

Although the menu is not actually German, the restaurant serves a good selection of beers and a menu that consists of traditional, yummy pub food (don’t try to diet here). A relaxed pub, no seriousness. Remember to try their famous wings!

Booking in advance is strongly recommended!

Hygge Bro

If you are looking for a relaxed place to chill with friends, Hygge Bro is the right address.

Decorated in a cosy Nordic way in the centralmost location of Kuopio (as locals say - “mualiman napa”), they are known to avoid the fine dining trend and serve easy yet filling dishes. A good option to enjoy lunch or have a creative break from work with coffee and cake.

HyggeBro, Kauppakatu 28

Panza

If you love Mexican and Central American food as much as we do, Panza is definitely worth a visit. Although Kuopio is not exactly Mexico, you can still find tasty tortillas and tacos in the very centre of the town.

Panza serves Central American inspired street food in a cool and hip way, making it one of the trendiest eateries in town. Don’t forget to try their cocktails!

King’s Crown

If you fancy a live music experience together with nice food, King’s Crown is a top choice for you. They often have local musicians performing, and music loving food lovers have found the restaurant really well.

King’s Crown supports local producers and therefore many ingredients come from the Kuopio region, which is certainly a nice trend in today’s restaurant business.

Trattoria Sorrento

Trattoria Sorrento is a true piece of Italy in the heart of Kuopio, and the owners are really putting an effort for customer experience. It’s easy forget you are actually not to too far from the Arctic Circle and most definitely not anywhere near the bay of Naples! They also serve you in the local Savo dialect.

We have a confirmation from a food loving Tuscan visitor that the restaurant, being outside Italy, serves food committed to high Italian standards.

Trattoria Sorrento, Snellmanninkatu 22

Samruai

Kuopio is pretty good when it comes to ethnic food. Thai food selection got better with Samruai’s arrival to town, and based on our experience, the food is excellent.

Samruai notes that “the food is made by Thai chefs, with recipes they’ve learnt from their mothers and relatives”. Foods of Thailand’s Isaan region are also on the list, making it a little bit different from many Thai restaurants outside Thailand. A little piece of Thailand in central Kuopio.

Samruai, Kauppakatu 63
